Urban Melahcholy Phase Two

Update: 2/18/2007
Phase Two of this project has been a long time waiting to get started. The last addition to this project being almost 12 months ago. I expect that I will post a few images to this gallery that will not make the final cut. It is the process of living with an image for awhile that helps me determine if I was successful in communicating an idea consistent with the project.

I would appreciate feedback along the way.

Year Of The Monkey is a artistic collaborative spearheaded by producers Ron Lopata and John jk Kanakis. Working with a community of songwriters, visual artists and musicians, '68' is the first release in a series of recordings and accompanying performances.

Artists involved with "68" include: Tomi Swick, Alastair, Kobe James, Andy Stochansky, Tara Slone, Mike Eastick of Idle Sons, Lindy, Joel Parisian and Haydain Neale of Jacksoul.

Tomi Swick - Stalled Out In The Doorway CD, Released 8/15/2006

I had the opportunity to hang out at the studio for a couple days while this CD was being recorded. This took place over two weeks at a place called Pucks Farm, in Schomberg, Ontario. I was there for the last couple of days. The studio is an old barn that has been converted. It is about 45 mintues outside of Toronto, so because of the long hours, everyone spent the night in the makeshift apartment in the barn. They choose to use a couple of my photos in the CD Jacket. The other photos were used on a website of the producer, Ron Lopata.

Tomi has an amazing voice. The vocal tracks were recorded at a couple of studios in England. The final mix was done by Chris Lord Alge, who has mixed records for many big bands (U2, Green Day). As of the beginning of 2007, Tomi is currently opening on tour with the Bare Naked Ladies. His single "A Night Like This" hit the top 10 in Canada last summer.

A 100 photo project begun in October, 2005.

The first phase of this project was created during the months from October 2005 thru March 2006. The idea of this project is for me to explore the creation of mood and meaning in my images with subject matter that seems very natural and reccuring to me. As projects go, many images should stand alone and be complete. However, some images will only work as part of the larger whole.

Melancholy: depression of spirits : a pensive mood
